Nestled in the heart of Saltillo, Tennessee, El Potrillo Mexican Restaurant brings an authentic slice of vibrant Mexican cuisine to the local dining scene. From the very first bite, this charming eatery invites you to experience the rich, bold flavors that define traditional Mexican cooking, crafted with care and passion.
El Potrillo is a culinary celebration, where every dish tells a flavorful story. Picture savoring the tender, smoky Carne Asada Tacos topped with freshly diced onions and cilantro, or enjoying the hearty Burrito Ranchero, bursting with a symphony of spices and robust ingredients. For those seeking a lighter yet satisfying option, the Chicken Fajitas arrive sizzling with a colorful medley of peppers and onions, releasing an irresistible aroma that fills the air.
The menu is thoughtfully rounded out with standout house favorites such as the crisp and creamy Chips and Salsa, paired perfectly with the White Cheese Sauce for an addictive start to your meal. Don’t miss their Chunk Guacamole, a fresh, chunky delight that bursts with zesty notes, perfectly balancing the rich dishes. And for a sweet finish, the Fried Ice Cream offers a warm, crunchy shell encasing the creamy cold center, leaving you with a smile on your face.
Beverage selections elevate the dining experience at El Potrillo. The classic Margarita is expertly balanced and refreshing, while the Tequila Sunrise and Mimosa provide delightful choices for those seeking a bright, spirited accompaniment to their meal. These drinks not only complement the bold flavors of the food but also create an inviting atmosphere for relaxation and enjoyment.
The warm, friendly service has become a hallmark of this establishment. Guests consistently praise the polite and attentive staff who make every visit feel personal and welcoming. As Steve Gerencser noted, the pricing is refreshingly reasonable, allowing diners to indulge in a satisfying Mexican feast without stretching their budget. The only minor quibble from some is a desire for bolder heat in the salsa, but this also highlights El Potrillo’s thoughtful approach to catering to diverse palates in Tennessee.
Whether you are stopping by for a casual lunch, a festive dinner, or a weekend getaway treat like Monica Kyle, who raved about the house specialty bowl brimming with chicken, beef, shrimp, vegetables, and cactus, El Potrillo consistently delivers an exceptional dining experience. As Adair Y so aptly put it, this restaurant is a “must have dinner” destination anytime you find yourself in the area.

Great lunch. I'm a lot particular about the Mexican food that I eat after living in the southwest for a decade. The food was excellent and well priced. My only wish was that the salsa had more heat. I understand that we are in Tennessee, but a little more heat was be awesome. Our lunch ran less than $12 each, including the drinks. Our server was extremely polite and made sure that we had everything we needed.
In the area for a weekend getaway and decided to try El Potrillo. What an incredibly delicious dinner and very friendly staff! Every dish was tasty. Salsa, chunky guacamole, margaritas, carne asada tacos and a house specialty bowl filled with mouth watering chicken, beef, shrimp, veggies and cactus! Highly recommend!

We really enjoyed our dinner tonight. Whenever we are visiting the area, this is a must have dinner here kinda place. It’s always excellent!
Food was delicious and the service was exceptional!!
The food was awsome. We drove almost a hr to try it because a friend said it was good. Will definitely go back. Home made chips and homemade guacamole. The best I've had since I left texas.
A party of nine stopped in yesterday, June 7th. They were able to get our orders correct and out in a timely fashion. The food was good and hot.
I came here from Mississippi to have dinner on my birthday with my son and granddaughter. We did not however inform staff of my birthday. The food was delicious and quick out of the kitchen. Friendly staff as well. It was a week night and not real busy. Will definitely return in the future. Not sure on group size availability. Beer was served but didn’t serve liquor. No margaritas
